Bertie Bear goes to Avalon, Northallerton
My first week away was amazing! I went to Avalon and I met lots of new friends and even went on some learning courses!
I went to visit our Support workers and customer working at Northdale today and met our deputy chief executive Julie Colley who had come to visit the Northallerton Avalon locality. I then joined in with the safe handling of Medication and safeguarding adults training which is provided by our excellent in house training department. After all this I finally got my cup of tea!
I then had a visit to Hambleton District council to help sort out a customers housing benefit. No two days are the same in support work. There are lots of new experiences and people are always learning in the job!
On Tuesday I went to visit one of our new Shared Lives Carers Loraine. Shared Lives is a unique service in which a customer lives in a family setting. This can be a long term placement or a short stay/respite in which a customer can have a home from home experience.
It proved another busy day for me on Wednesday! First we popped to a supported living house to meet two customers Daniel and Michael. Then we gave Dan a lift to his work placement at Chopsticks another fantastic charity who support people through work based learning. I then spent the afternoon without Sarah at their Golden days service which a day centre for older adults which runs on a Tuesday and Thursday. I took his sweets, radio and information pack which I enjoyed showing off and sharing with some new friends!
Thank you for having me again Avalon, I had a fantastic week!
Love from Bertie xx
